Prin.L.N.Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research, Mumbai was established 1977 with a focus on giving a new dimension to business studies. It is part of the Shikshana Prasaraka Mandali, which has 43 prominent institutions across the country under its purview. It is one of the leading management institutes of India. The institute has been in the fore-front of advancement in business education. In addition to its prestigious full time master's level programs, Welingkar offers part time and distance learning MBA level programs as well as online programs. All programs, including Distance MBA level P.G diploma program have been recognised by Distance Education Council (DEC), Government of India.
Welingkar started its journey by offering short term diploma programs catered to the needs of professionals, helping them progress in their careers. It was the first A-grade management institute to have obtained ISO 9001 - 2000, certified by BVQI. Over the years it has established itself and introduced many new diploma and post graduate distance learning programs. From 1984, it also offered full time management programs. Its core strength lies in identifying new sectors and providing quality education in those areas like retail, e-biz, design & innovation and commodity trading among others.
