University College of Engineering (UCoE), Patiala came into existence in 2003, after long serious deliberations for about six months between the senior faculty of the University, technical experts and the Vice-Chancellor regarding the need of quality education in the field of Engineering and Technology in the state of Punjab. Punjabi University has shown a remarkable growth and excellence in the various fields over the last 40 years and has been accredited with Five Star status by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Keeping in view the increasing needs of technical education and lack of proper faculty and facilities available in many recently established engineering colleges and feeling deeply concerned with the deterioration in the quality standards in the technical education.
The University decided to use its potential for enriching the aspiring students and their parents with quality technical education in the state of Punjab, Overwhelming response from the people was witnessed during counselling conducted by Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar, when UCoE was the first wherein all the seats in the three field of engineering (Computer, Electronics & Communication and Mechanical) were filled in the first counseling itself. This exhibits the tremendous faith, the people of Punjab have on the capacity and capability of Punjabi University, Patiala.
The University College of Engineering extends over an area of 14 acres within the Punjabi University campus. The University campus itself extends to an area of 316 acres. With many topographical features, picturesque landscape, numerous buildings of various nature and stature, and clean and wide roads and a location away from the hustle and bustle of city life, the campus exhibits a harmony in architecture and natural beauty. It provides all amenities to the students including well maintained sports grounds and facilities for games such as hockey, football, cricket, basketball, volleyball, athletics etc. and well as various indoor games like badminton.
The Punjabi University also has a large gymnasium and a hall for indoor games. It is one of the very few institutions in India to possess its own velodrome. It also provides 4 auditoriums for the use of students for organizing activities and seminars. The university also has a shopping complex called the Gol Market which has all commodities and facilities necessary for student use. It also harbours a branch of State Bank of Patiala.
An area of 14 acres of land in the University Campus constitutes The University College of Engineering. It includes the instructional area, laboratories, computer and informatics centre, library, workshops, administrative offices, hostels, one each for the boys and girls with a capacity of 400 each, a swimming pool and landscapes with an approximate cost of Rs. 25 crores extending over a total building area of more than 32,000 sq. meters. The workshops which have already been constructed are equipped with the modern and latest equipment. The College aims to provide all other modern amenities and teaching aids in its academic area such as library, informatics centre, class rooms, seminar rooms etc. and as well as in both the hostels.
The main building of the college is a towering 9 storey structure due to be completed within a few months. With floors connected through a lift system the college is proposed to be centrally air conditioned. When fully complete it shall harbour spacious lecture halls, faculty rooms and labs.
Placement Cell :-
The university has a centralized placement cell which works towards placing the students of the university, thus giving them a launch pad to start their careers. The placement cell engages in career counseling activities for the students. It also works toward enriching the knowledge of the students by organizing seminars and workshops on the latest in their respective fields. The cell acts as a bridge between the students and the industry. It also advices on restructuring of curriculum on the basis of inputs gathered from the alumni and the industry.
