Queen Mary's College, Chennai was established in 1914 as Madras women's college, later it was renamed as Queen Mary's college in 1917. The College is completely governed by the rules framed by the Department of Higher Education, Government of Tamilnadu and is under the control of the Directorate of Collegiate Education. It is affiliated to University of Madras and accredited by NAAC with B+.
The College has played a dominant role in empowering women from disadvantaged sections of society. It provides provide educational access to women from different strata of society without discrimination. The objective of the college is to function exclusively for the uplift of women in the state and nation, allowing them freedom of expression and gender equity.
