The R.M.D. Engineering College started in the year 2001 – 2002 at Kavaraipettai, Gummudipoondi Taluk, and Thiruvallur District under the auspices of Sri Swaminatha Naidu Educational Trust which is a registered Telugu Educational Trust. The trust renders philanthropic and educational service to Telugu linguistic people living in rural areas bordering Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. The main objective of the Trust is to foster quality technical and higher education, research and training in rural areas in various branches of science and technology and simultaneously inculcate among the youth a sense of discipline so that they can be moulded into competent and talented engineers.
Thiru. R. S. Munirathinam is the Founder-Chairman of R.M.D Engineering College is well known for his Philanthropic attitude and service. He was an elected member of the State assembly of Tamil Nadu. He envisioned a technological revolution and committed himself to establish educational Institutions to foster technical and higher education. He is a rare breed of educationalist, for whom, Quality is the way of life.
The College is located at Kavaraipettai at a distance of about 35 km from Chennai on the Chennai – Vijayawada National Highway (NH5). It is easily reached from Chennai by bus proceeding to Gummudipoondi / Sulurpeta / Nellore / Nayudupeta / Sri Kalahasthi / Thirupathi. The College is also accessible by suburban trains running between Chennai and Gummudipoondi. The College about a kilometer from Kavaraipettai railway station (station next to Ponneri).
The college aspires to ba a premier technical institution offering quality education and training in engineering and technology thereby making vital contribution to the industrial development of the country by providing trained and comeptent graduates and post graduates through an effective educatuional process.
The College has initiated Scholarship of the value of Rs. 5000/- each to be given to deserving students on merit cum-means basis in addition to the Scholarships awarded by the Government of Tamil Nadu.
