Ranchi University, Ranchi was established in 1960 with ten post graduate departments, one constituent college (Ranchi College, Ranchi), and 20 affiliated college spread over an area of 65,000 square kilometer. At present, the University spans five districts of Jharkhand, namely, Ranchi, Gumla, Khunti, Simdega and Lohardaga. Right since its inception Ranchi University has been alive to the ever increasing demands of higher education. Keeping apace with changing times, the University today offers vocational courses.
Central tenets of the University’s vision and mission are commitments to academic excellence in teaching and research, innovation and creativity, respect for cultural diversity, individual dignity and worth, responsible stewardship and conservation of resources and leadership and involvement in the economics, social and professional growth of the reason and the nation.

Academic Life at Ranchi University -
At present the University has 23 post graduate departments, 15 constituent colleges, and 49 affiliated colleges, imparting teaching in medicine, psychiatry, law, engineering, business management, education, and general courses. Besides these institutions there is UGC sponsored Academic Staff College.
The university’s pursuit of academic excellence is reflected in the fact that today is has four autonomous colleges, and three college with potential for excellence (CPE) status. Beside these, five colleges have already been granted accreditation by NAAC.
