Saint-Petersburg State I.P. Pavlov Medical University was established in 1897 as Women's Medical University (PUSH) - the first in Russia and in Europe, the institution in which women are given the opportunity to receive a medical degree. Since its inception to the present day University of name changes - Petrograd Women's Institute of Medicine (1918), the First Leningrad Medical Institute, the name that has come to the medical history of the city and country (1924). In 1994, the Institute was transformed into the University and received its current name.
St. Petersburg State Medical University named after academician IP Pavlova - one of the leading medical schools of the country. Today, its structure consists of 10 faculties. With 67 faculties are trained annually over 5000 students. University Hospital, which includes more than 100 branches, daily receives patients from all over the country. Also, part of the State Medical University consists of 11 institutes, research institutes and centers.
