Seemanta Mahavidyalaya, Jharpokharia was established in 1979, is a premier educational institution in the tribal dominated northern frontier of Orissa state in the district of Mayurbhanj. It is affiliated to CHSE, Orissa and North Orissa University in +2 Arts/Science/Commerce stream and +3 Arts/Science degree course respectively. The college was accorded concurrence by the Govt. of Orissa in 1979-80 and affiliation was obtained from Utkal University in 1980-81 for opening of intermediate class in Arts. Subsequently the college began to expand its academic branches keeping harmony with the sweet flow of the river.
The mission of the college is to achieve academic excellence in quality teaching and learning. The college has already attained 28 years of its existence. During the past 27 years it has marched ahead on the path of progress. The discipline among the students, the sincerity of the teaching staff and above all the smooth administration are laudable to create an encouraging academic atmosphere.
