Sikkim Government College (SGC), Sikkim was established in 1977. It is an affiliated college. The college is leading a important role to promote value based education especially to the financially backward students. All academic activities are carried out in accordance with the prescribed syllabi, examination schedules and academic calendar of the Sikkim University. The college has state-of-the-art technologies and infrastructure.
The college comes under the Sikkim University, established under Sikkim University Act, 2006.In July 2007, the University started functioning. The first Vice Chancellor of Sikkim University is Professor Mahendra P. Lama. It was established and fully funded by the Government of India under an Act of Parliament. It is a central university. The educational jurisdiction of the University extends the entire state of Sikkim. The University is located in a very peaceful, accessible and naturally magnificent surrounding of Sikkim, contributing substantively to the nation building process by mobilizing the rich intellectual heritage of this region. The Ministry of Human Resource Development, government of India and University Grants Commission are deeply committed to make this University truly an International Institution.
