Sir J. J. Institute of Applied Art (JJIAA), Mumbai was established in 1935 and was awarded independent institute status in 1961. Since 1981 this institute has been affiliated to the University of Mumbai as a college for teaching the B.F.A. (Applied Art), degree Course as prescribed by the University of Mumbai. All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi too has accorded its approval for conducting B.F.A. in Applied Art, Degree Course at this Institute. The aim of the institute is to provide facilities for the professional and specialized training in Visual Communication.
All the courses at the institute is designed to assist students in developing the proficiency and motivation. The specialized areas covered are Lettering-Typography, Illustration, Photography, Computer Graphics and the Exhibition Display Design. The Course is designed for the large number of talented youth, whose desire are better satisfied by training that is both theoretical and practical in character. The Institute believes in changing and adopting with time, thus providing relevant and contemporary education.
