The Sonari College, a microcosm of the knowledge world is situated at Sonari, a newly developed town with a composite culture of diverse ethnic and religious community. The Charaideo Sub-division, where Sonari is located, was the first capital of the Tai-Ahom who ruled Assam continuously for about six hundred years (From 1228 AD to 1826 AD) never found in the world history. The sub-division nestled in scenic spells of nature enriched by fifty nine tea estates around it. With blue hills, has a rich heritage of art, culture and history. The sacred burial places (Maidam), Pyramid of India, of the memberS of the royalty and aristocracy is the great temptation for the explore of the exotica.
The college was established in 5th August, 1970 AD. The college was affiliated to Dibrugarh University in 1974 and is under 12b and 12f of UGC Act.The college celebrated Silver Jubilee in 1996 and was assessed and accredited by NAAC in 2004. The college, so far, produces generations of intellectual , social server and contributes in various fields of the society. It is now well equipped with 1400 students and 38 teachers in both Arts and Science stream
