St. George's College, Kottayam was established in the year 1965 named after the patron saint of the local catholic parish is affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University. The College is re-accredited by NAAC with 'A' grade and has distinguished itself for its high academic standards, discipline and achievements in sports and games. The College is situated on the banks of river Meenachil. Now a first grade college managed and owned by St.George’s Forane church. The college has come into lime light due to its innovative scheme on community linkage establishing a community telecasting centre at the college one of its first kind in India.
The college is situated in the state of Kerala in the District of Kottayam in Erattupetta (Aruvithura) and is approachable by road. The nearest railway station is at Kottayam which is approximately 54 away and the nearest airport is at Nedumbasserry( Cochin) about 90 kms away. The college is nestled among the hills on the banks of river Meenachil made famous by Arundhati Roy’s God of Small Things and caters to students predominantly from agricultural back ground. The main crops here are rubber, pepper, coconut, tea, coffee, tapioca and so on. Christians, Hindus and Muslims live here in harmony, peace and amity.
The St.George Forane church Aruvithura which owns and manages the college is a place of repute for pilgrimage. The college is just 6 km away from Bharananganam which is a pilgrim centre of great repute honoring Blessed Alphonsa. The College is about 40 kms away from Sabarimala one of the most famous pilgrim centers in South India. The College is near to Vagamon one of the most beautiful tourist spots in the state of Kerala.
