St. Teresa College was established in 1925 and is named after St. Teresa of Avila. St.Teresa's College, a pioneering institution in the field of Higher Education in India. The college was the first women's college of the erstwhile Cochin state and the second in the whole of Kerala by the congregation of the Carmelite sisters of St.Teresa. The college was a second grade Arts College affiliated to the Madras University and offered the intermediate course with Ancient History, Modern History and Logic.
The main aim of the college is to promote a college community/society/nation where spiritual, moral and genuine values are lived and witnessed, to create a climate for human and academic excellence with an openness to learning, research and the development of professional skills, to promote peace and harmony through an intercultural and inter-religious dialogue, to contribute to the transformation of society through an openness to life and living the challenges of being socially conscious and socially responsible and to promote programs/movements that foster inter-connectedness, kinship and eco-justice.
