St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi was established in 1944 by the Ranchi Jesuit Society. The college was first affiliated to Patna University; from 1950-1960 the college was under Bihar University and when the Ranchi University came into existence in 1960, the college was affiliated to Ranchi University. Since its very inception, the college was rated as one of the best colleges and most sought-after college after Science College, Patna.
St. Xavier's College, Ranchi is a premier institution of the State of Jharkhand, imparting quality education and has remained a center of excellence till date. This is a minority educational institution. It has been accredited by NAAC with Grade “A” in 2013. The University Grants Commission conferred autonomous status in 2005 and granted "College with Potential for Excellence" status in 2006.
