About The University of British Columbia

The University of British Columbia (UBC) is one of North America's leading universities, founded in 1908, and consistently ranked among the top 40 research universities in the world. An international reputation for the quality of research and teaching draws top faculty and outstanding students from 151 countries worldwide.

UBC offers an exceptional learning environment embracing ideals of global citizenship, civil society, and sustainability. In the emerging sphere of open access, for example, UBC is a world-leader in making research findings freely available.

Two superb campuses are models of sustainability. The magnificent oceanside Vancouver campus is located near the multicultural city on Canada's spectacular Pacific coast. The newly-enlarged Okanagan campus is set in the scenic hill-and-lake landscape of BC's interior. Both campuses offer outstanding natural surroundings and year-round access to outdoor activities at beaches, parks, and world-class ski resorts.

Learning opportunities

UBC's Internationally-recognized degree programs are offered at undergraduate, postgraduate and professional levels through 17 Faculties, and 15 Schools. Research and teaching programs in virtually every field of academic study include humanities & social sciences, business, engineering, life & physical sciences, resources sciences, visual & performing arts, and more.

UBC currently welcomes over 9,000 international students, including about 400 from India. Among many top-notch facilities for learning are the UBC Library - one of the largest research libraries in Canada, the Barber Centre of Learning, three teaching hospitals, the Museum of Anthropology, the Museum of Biodiversity, Botanic Gardens, the Chan Centre international concert stage, and the TRIUMF accelerator facility, home to Canada's national particle physics laboratory

UBC's learning-enrichment opportunities include coop (degree-related work experience in most programs); and study exchange through 165 partner universities worldwide - including Delhi University, the Delhi Institute of Technology, and the Indian Institutes of Management in Ahmedabad and Bangalore. Students can also participate in community-service learning programs in Canada or overseas.

Campus Life

All first-year students coming from high school are guaranteed a place in UBC's high quality student housing (apply by May 1).Orientation programs before classes start ensure that new students feel prepared to begin their studies in confidence, and year-round residence and student service programs support academic and social success. Opportunities for athletics include competitive women's and men's teams in soccer, field hockey, basketball, and 13 other sports (UBC has won more national championships than any Canadian university, and produced many Olympic medalists). For recreational and social interests, there are literally hundreds of student clubs and societies, together with cultural events that include international level concerts, opera, fine art, theatre, and countless other student and community activities.
