University of Burdwan (UB), Bardhaman was established in 1960, with Sukumar Sen as its first Vice-chancellor. It has constantly grown with time, adding professional and vocational courses to its kitty. University of Burdwan occupies an exalted place amongst the universities of West Bengal. It has been awarded with 4 star status by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) to acknowledge the contribution of Burdwan University in the educational development of the state.
The jurisdiction of the university spreads across five districts of West Bengal - Burdwan, Hooghly (excluding Serampore Subdivision), Bankura, Birbhum and Purulia, nourishing more than 100 colleges. University of Burdwan provides a wide array of courses to the students offering under graduate, post graduate, M.Phil, Doctoral and post doctoral programs as well as diploma, advanced diploma and certificate courses on various subjects.
Facilities :-
All basic facilities have been provided in the university. Amenities like a computer center, well maintained central library, modern health center, and instrumentation centre are available. The university has also maintained a museum and art gallery at Rajbati that displays the pottery of prehistoric age.
