The University of Chicago (UChicago), established in 1890, is private coeducational research university that offers undergraduate and graduate degrees across many academic fields and specializations. More than 80 Nobel laureates, 16 percent of all recipients since the award was first given in 1901, have been associated with the University of Chicago, including Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar in Physics'83. UChicago's historic main campus is located in the residential neighborhood of Hyde Park, just a short walk from the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan and seven miles from downtown Chicago, easily accessible by train, car, or scenic lakeside bike path. The University also has locations in downtown Chicago, Beijing, London, Paris, and Singapore, and host two national laboratories, Argonne and Fermilab, where some of the world's leading research in physics and engineering is conducted.
