University of Waikato was established in 1964. The University is committed in delivering a world class education and research portfolio, providing a full and dynamic university experience, distinctive in character and pursuing strong international links to advance knowledge. They are proud of their evolution into a truly New Zealand institution, supporting their country's nation building policies and reflecting their nation's identity.
The University of Waikato has grown to a student population of about 13,000 of whom more than 4800 complete a qualification annually. Today the University employs 2000 academic and support staff, making a significant contribution to the local and national economy.

The University of Waikato is located in the North Island where it has a number of campuses:
Hamilton Campus: The University of Waikato's main campus is in Hamilton, 4 km from the city centre. The University campus is located in the suburb of Hillcrest and may be accessed from either Knighton Road or Hillcrest Road.
Tauranga city campus: The University of Waikato also has a satellite campus in Tauranga, serving the Bay of Plenty region. The University's offerings are delivered from two sites, the Bongard Centre in Cameron Road, and the Windermere campus in conjunction with the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic.
