Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur (VNIT) was established in 1960 as a joint venture of Government of India and Government of Maharashtra. The college has made steady progress during the past four decades of its existence. Established as a pace setting Institute of Technical Education imparting undergraduate education, it has played a leading role in guiding other engineering colleges in Maharashtra.
In this mission today it has progressed to offering several M. Tech. Programmes and facilities for Ph.D. The college also undertakes R & D activities and offers testing, consultancy and other extension services including continuing education to the industry through the Industry Institute Interaction Cell and the placement of the students through the Department of Training & Placement. As a prestigious national institute, VNIT has long recognised its role in engineering education, generation and dissemination of useful & relevant technological, industrial & economical development of the country, the institute has contributed in the application of science & technology in the service of the society through different programs of International aid & assistance, the institute has all along endeavored to discharge its obligations successfully with the efforts of its faculty expertise & well developed world class facilities. Institute Infrastructure: The Institute has a well equipped library, a computer centre, lecture hall complex, Seminar halls, various laboratories in different departments, Mechanical Lab, Workshop, Hydraulic Lab, Material Sci. Lab, Computer Centre, workshops, Industry Institute interaction cell, hostels, health care centre, and adequate facilities for sports, games and co-curricular activities. Faculty: Institute is having high class faculty including Professors, readers, lecturers, etc. The institute is proud of its outstanding and dedicated faculty. Institute Facilities: Computer Center, Library , Hospital, Transport, Hostels(7-boys & 2-Girls) and Mess , Internet , Security ,games & sport ,Central Workshop, Bank etc. Placement: Placements several national and MNC are visiting campus regularly. Apart from the regular courses, the institute also offers Part time Semester Courses for Working Professionals, Teachers, PG students & Senior UG students of Engineering or M. Sc. / M.C.A..
