Statistics
Statistics is a part of mathematics that includes analysis, collection, presentation and interpretation of the numerical data. Statistics enables the economists and statisticians to predict business trends, demographic patterns and market behavior. Different branches of statistics include tourism statistics, election statistics, crime statistics, medical statistics, census statistics, oil statistics, cricket statistics, job-seekers statistics, ecological statistics, education statistics, labor statistics, market statistics, film statistics, population statistics, and accident statistics.
A person who specializes in this field is known as a statistician. Statisticians gather, verify and understand the data and use the same to solve problems in a broad range of fields.

Basic Eligibility
UG:
For admission in to bachelor’s degree, the candidate must have passed the higher secondary school certificate (10+2) examination with science subject such as (biology, maths and chemistry). The duration for this course is 3 years.
PG:
The eligibility criteria for pursuing a master’s degree are holding a bachelor's degree with science subjects such as (biology, maths and chemistry). The duration for this course is 2 years.

Job Prospects
There is a lot of scope in this field for young aspirants. Skilled professional in this field will find employment opportunities in public sector and in financial institutions. Statisticians working in survey department gather information from particular section and publish results for the whole population. Surveys conducted on a range of issues such as political candidate during elections, or issues related to the general public. Statistician can also seek employment in business field, sports statistician, scientific research, and medical statistician.

Those who are in senior positions holding designations such as econometrician/statistician, statistical analyst get salary around Rs. 6 00,000 – 9, 50,000 per annum. Statistician working in universities and colleges get more income compared to other faculty members.
