About Defense Services Examination
Defense Services Examinations are those exams, which are conducted on All India basis for selecting candidates into defense forces such as - navy, army and air force. The Defense Services are also known as The Combined Defense Services (CDS). UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) conducts the Combined Defense Service (CDS) exams twice a year.
Candidates who have successfully cleared the exam can serve the country through Indian Air Force, Indian Army or Indian Navy. The exam is also referred to as UPSC CDS Exam. The exams happen in December and the advertising will start off from somewhere in August/September. Similarly for the July exam the advertising starts somewhere in March/April.

For the Indian Military Academy and the Officers Training Academy
For the Naval Academy
For the Air Force Academy
The candidates should be graduates in Science with Physics and / or Mathematics as compulsory subjects.

Once the candidate clears the Combined Defense Services (CDS) exam, they are called for interview by Service Selection Board (SSB).
