What if the TOEFL iBT is not offered in my location? What is TOEFL PBT? Do I have to take the Test of Written English [TWE]?
TOEFL is offered as an Internet based test[iBT] in most places. ETS offers the TOEFL Paper-based Test in areas where the TOEFL iBT is not available. The TOEFL PBT is offered 6 times a year.The test fee is US$150. You can register online or by mail. You must take the Test of Written English test if you are taking the TOEFL PBT. There is no additional charge for the TWE.

What is the test like? What am I tested on in each section?
The test has 3 sections, plus a 30-minute writing test (Test of Written English), which is required of everyone who takes the paper-based test. It takes about 3-1/2 hours. There is no scheduled break.
Most of the questions are multiple-choice. The Listening Comprehension section measures the ability to understand English as it is spoken in North America. Structure and Written Expression measures the ability to recognize language that is appropriate for standard written English. Reading Comprehension measures the ability to understand non-technical reading material. Writing measures the ability to write in English on an assigned topic.

How and when do I get my scores? How do I order additional score reports?
Scores will be mailed to you and the institutions you selected about 5 weeks after the test date. Allow 7-10 days within the continental U.S. and additional time for other areas. You may obtain your scores by phone before receiving your copy by mail. Consult the score reporting schedule to find out when your scores will be available. You will receive one free printed score report for yourself and up to 4 official score reports, which are sent from ETS to your selected institutions.
Additional score reports can be ordered:
- By phone: Call 1-609-771-7267 using a touch-tone phone. Provide your 7-digit registration number (printed on your admission ticket), test date and date of birth. Use a valid credit card: American Express, Discover, JCB, MasterCard or VISA. Provide a 4-digit institution code (PDF) and a 2-digit department code (PDF).

How long will my score be valid? How can I cancel my scores?
Scores are valid for 2 years after the test date. Complete the score cancellation section of your answer sheet, or contact TOEFL Services immediately after the test.
When will I receive my admission ticket(s)?

What to Bring to the test center on the Test Day?
You must bring valid identification and your registration number on test day. You cannot take the test without them.
1. Valid ID with your name, signature and photograph must have: the same name you used when you registered, your entire first/given name and entire last/family name and a clear, recent photo. Accepted Valid IDs for testing in Bangladesh, India and Pakistan: Only valid passports with name, photo and signature are accepted. Changes will not be made unless your name is misspelled. Expired documents and copies are not accepted.
2. Your registration number: You will get this number when you register. Log in to your online profile, print your registration confirmation with the number on it and bring it to the test center. IMPORTANT: On the day before the test, check your profile again to see if any changes were made, such as the testing location or starting time.
If your ID is not in English-language letters and the test administrator cannot read the language in which it is written, you may not be permitted to test. If your ID does not contain your signature, you must present an additional document from the list of supplemental identification documents that does contain your signature.
3. All passports and other IDs must be in English-language letters and have your signature. Please arrive at least 30 minutes early. If you are late, you may not get in and could lose your test fee. Your ID may be verified at the test center by: thumb printing, signature comparison, photographing/videotaping or by other forms of electronic ID confirmation
If you refuse to have your ID verified, you will not be permitted to take the test and you will forfeit your test fee.
What to Expect on TOEFL Test Day?
The following information will help you understand test center guidelines, policies and procedures. Any violation of these procedures may result in cancellation of your scores, dismissal by test center staff or banning from future testing. Test centers and ETS assume no responsibility for personal items or devices that you bring into the center.
- The TOEFL iBT takes about four and a half hours.
- You may pace yourself with your own watch, but the computer is the official timekeeper.
- Alarms on watches or other devices are not permitted.
- You will not be permitted to test beyond the time limit.
- You will use a standard English-language (QWERTY) computer keyboard to take the TOEFL iBT. Practice on this type of keyboard to prepare for the test.
- Test center administrators cannot make schedule changes.
- Friends or relatives are not allowed in the test center during the test.
- You should dress comfortably for any room temperature.
- You are required to write (not print) and sign a confidentiality statement at the test center. You cannot test without it. Your fees will NOT be refunded if you do not sign.
- Your picture will be taken and placed at your assigned station and on your score report.
- Scratch paper is provided and must be returned at the end of the session.
- Raise your hand if you need assistance or have a problem with your computer.
- Testing premises are subject to videotaping.
- Admittance to the test center does not mean that your ID is valid or that your scores will be reported.
- All cases of questionable ID are subject to review and approval by the ETS Office of Testing Integrity.
- The test administrator will assign you a seat.
- There is a mandatory 10-minute break midway through the test.
- If you take more than 10 minutes, you may be dismissed or your score may be canceled.
- Raise your hand if you need to leave your seat for any reason.
- If you must leave the room, you must show the administrator your identification document(s) before you leave and when you return.
- You cannot use your cell phone during the test or during breaks.
- Identification documents are the only personal items allowed in the testing room. You cannot bring cell phones, PDAs, BlackBerry devices or any other electronic or photographic equipment.
- You will receive instructions on where to put personal items.
- If you bring them into the testing room, they will be collected by test center staff.
- If you do not follow directions, you cannot take the test.
- You must answer at least 1 question in each Reading and Listening section, write at least 1 essay, and complete at least 1 Speaking task to receive an official score report.
If I am running out of time, should I guess or leave some answers blank? 
Make every effort to complete each section. Data indicates most test takers get higher scores if they finish the test. There is a chance that random guessing at the end of a section can seriously lower scores. The best strategy is to pace yourself so you have enough time to consider each question without guessing.
How do I cancel or reschedule my registration?
Test date changes are not permitted. If you do not take the test and do not wish to register for another date, you may request a refund by submitting the Refund Request Form which you can find it Here.
If you wish to test on another date, you must submit a new registration form and test fee. Do NOT contact the test center before the day of the test. Staff at the test center will not have the information necessary to assist you. Please contact TOEFL Services if you need help.
What are TOEFL Reschuduling and/or Cancelling policies?
To Reschedule or Cancel TOEFL test Registration:
You must make your request no later than 3 days before your test date (not including the day of your request or the day of the test). The rescheduling fee is US$50. Your original registration fee must be paid before you can reschedule.
- Reschedule or cancel online: Log in to your TOEFL iBT account, click View Order(s) on your home page, then click Modify or Cancel on the Order Summary page.
- Reschedule or cancel by phone: Provide your registration number and full name used when you registered. Contact the Regional Registration Center you registered with for cancelling or reschuduling. Note: You cannot reschedule or cancel by mail or e-mail or at the test center.
Refund Policy: If you Cancel your registration no later than 3 days before your test date (not including the day of your request or the day of the test), half of the original test fee will be refunded. The other half will be used to cover processing charges. Refunds are processed automatically and include taxes as applicable. Refunds will be in U.S. dollars. Cash refunds are not available. Refunds will not be given if you do not follow proper registration procedures or do not present the required identification documents at the test center.
- If you paid by credit/debit card or e-check, the refund will be credited back to the original credit/debit card or bank account.
- If you paid by personal check drawn on a U.S. domestic bank, allow 8 weeks for processing. If payment was made in non-U.S. funds drawn on a bank outside the U.S., allow 12 weeks.
