Description

Durga puja is the most prominent festival of Bengalis. It is the time of the year when the 'City of Joy', Calcutta comes 'alive', radiating the warmth of Bengali culture, tradition and grandness.
Every Bengali away from home longs to hear the familiar sound of Dhak (drum rolls), be with their family, and feel the festive spirit of Durga Puja. The open blue sky, the golden sunshine, Dhunuchi nachh (dance with incense)and the mild fragnance of Shiuli, gives a familiar tug at every Bengali heart.
It is celebrated during the last four days of the festival from Maha-Shashti (the sixth day), to the day when the idols are immersed in the rivers, lakes and seas on the evening of Dashami. It is believed that the Mother Goddess descends to the Earth on Shashthi and returns to her abode on Dashmi.
