Admission Procedure for Engineering Courses in Maharashtra

A huge number of top colleges and institutes in Maharashtra offer Bachelor of Engineering (B.E) degree to students in different fields with a total intake of over 1.55 lakh seats. There are 368 engineering institutes in Maharashtra out of which more than 250 institutes are private unaided Institutes.

This year, The DTE Maharashtra, the competent authority for the admissions to the first year engineering courses has already announced that admissions are based on the JEE Main 2014 Paper 1. The score of the candidates in the JEE Main 2014 Paper 1 and HSC Marks will be considered to prepare the merit list for the engineering admissions in the state. This year, JEE Main has replaced MT-CET for the admission procesdure for engineering courses in Maharashtra.

The most sought after engineering branches in Maharashtra colleges are Computer Science in the first place, Electronics & Communication coming second with Mechanical Engineering and Information technology following them. Also the other disciplines like Civil Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering accounts for good share of takers. Students who are interested in Chemical Engineering and Instrumentation Engineering can find more than 1500 seats in Maharashtra.

G.H Raisoni College of Engineering, Priyadarshini College of Engineering, Yeshwantrao Chavan College of Engineering, Sinhgad College of Engineering and D Y Patil College of Engineering has the intake of more than 600 each. Almost 163 colleges have over 400 engineering seats. Sinhgad College of Engineering, Vadgaon (BK), Pune has the highest number of seats with 1140 seats for engineering in over 9 streams.

Mumbai University has an intake of about 26,540 seats and Pune University has an intake of approximately 50,550 seats spread across different colleges.

Eligibility Criteria: 

Eligibility criteria for Maharashtra State Candidate and outside Maharashtra state candidates: 

·         The candidate should be an Indian national and should have passed the HSC (Std.XII) examination of Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education or its equivalent examination with subjects English, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/ Technical Vocational subject.

·         The students secured minimum 50 % marks (minimum 45 % marks, in case of Backward class categories and  Persons  with  Disability  candidates  belonging  to  Maharashtra  State  only)  in the subjects Physics,  Mathematics  and  Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/  Technical  Vocational subject added together. 

·         The candidates from Maharashtra should have obtained  a  positive  Composite  score i.e., marks obtained after adding 50% of JEE  (Main)2014 (Paper  1) marks and 50% of normalized Standard  XII  (Board or Equivalent Examination) marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. For all India students, they should have obtained All India Rank in JEE (Main) 2014 (Paper 1) given by CBSE.

Break up of engineering seats in Maharashtra:

1. Pune University: 33% with 50,550 seats

2. Mumbai University: 17% with 26,540 seats.

3. Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University:14% with 22,392 seats.

4. Shivaji University:10% with 15,750 seats.

5. Sant Gadge Baba Amarvati University: 7% with 10,860 seats.

6. Dr B A Marathwada University: 7% with with 10,132 seats.

7. North Maharashtra University: 5% with 7,140 seats.

8. Solapur University: 4% with 6,060 seats.

9. S.R.T Marathwada University: 2% with 3,830 seats.

10. Gondwana University: 1% with 2,000 seats.

Counseling Process: First three rounds of counseling are through Centralized Allotment Process (CAP) by Direct Allotment for Maharashtra and JEE Main. The fourth round of counseling is by Centralized Counseling process only for Maharashtra candidates. The DTE, Maharashtra says there are 15 major steps in CAP which are given below:

Major Steps in the Admission Process Through CAP:

1. Filling of online application form for centralized admission to engineering/technology by eligible candidates.

2. Document verification & confirmation of online application form at Application Form Receipt Centers (ARCs).

3. Display of provisional merit list of candidates who have confirmed the online application form on website

4. Submission of grievances (if any) at ARC.

5. Display of final merit list of candidates on website.

6. Filling and confirmation of option form for round I by candidate through his/her login.

7. Display of allotment of CAP Round I on website.

8. Reporting to respective institutes as per allotment of CAP Round I.

9. Filling of Online option Form for CAP Round II by candidate through his/her login.

10. Confirmation of option form for Round II by candidate through his/her login.

11. Display of allotment of CAP Round II on website.

12. Reporting to respective Institutes as per allotment of CAP Round II 

13. Filling of online option form for CAP Round III by candidate through his/her Login.

14. Display of allotment of CAP Round III on website. 

15. CAP Round IV by counseling and reporting to respective Institute.
