Indian School Muscat appointed as new test center in UAE for India's JEE 2013

Indian School Muscat (ISM) will be the new test center for the newly introduced Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) scheduled to be held in April next year. JEE Main has been proposed to replace AIEEE (All India Engineering Entrance Examination) for admission to engineering colleges across India.

The decision came in the wake of the move taken by the Board of Directors Indian Schools in Sultanate of Oman to which the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) responded positively by adding Muscat as a test center for JEE-Mains.

Till now, Gulf region had only 3 test centers for JEE – Bahrain, Dubai and Riyadh. Oman students were required to travel either to Gulf centers or to India for appearing in the entrance exam. Now, with Muscat as a new test center, difficulties of the students and parents will be alleviated to a greater extent.

Besides the benefit of taking one of the entrance exams for Indian colleges, students will be able to appear for the test in Oman itself. This will prevent students from the stress of travelling to India or any other Gulf region for taking the JEE Mains. It would also help in providing the required emotional support to students during the preparation of the exam.

More than 1000 students participate in CBSE class XII board exams every year in Oman.

The new format of JEE (Joint Entrance Exam) will ensure admission to IITs, NITs and other centrally funded technical institutes. Exam will have 2 parts – JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. JEE Mains is for students seeking admission to all engineering colleges across India while JEE-Advanced will ensure admission to the 13 IITs. Candidates qualifying JEE Mains and falling in the bracket of top 20 percentile of their respective class XII boards will be eligible to take JEE Advanced.

The last date to fill application forms online is December 15, 2012. Candidates can log onto www.jeemain.nic.in for more details.
