NIT Jalandhar gets new IT Park

Kapil Sibal, minister of human resource development, communication and information technology recently inaugurated a new IT Park at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) at Jalandhar automatically making it a part of the National Knowledge Network. The IT park, which was started with an investment of 11 crore was formally declared open by the minister who also inaugurated a virtual classroom set up at the institute.

The minister addressed the students and spoke about the importance of using technology in an effective and intelligent way and how it will help in overcoming larger problems like excessive pressure on faculty members. The minister added that the Dr.B.R.Ambedkar NIT, Jalandhar had created a new landmark for the students of the region, as they would now be able to share resources and make optimum use of them.

The network consists of almost 774 institutes. These include IITs, IIMs, deemed universities, NITs and many central universities. The network consists of an ultra high speed core (multiples of 10Gbps), along with a distribution layer at an appropriate speed network. The design of the network is meant to support overlay networks, virtual networks and dedicated networks, sources from the institute told the Hindustan times.

This is the 66th such classroom to be set up in India. The classroom will allow students at the NIT clear doubts and discuss issues with experts across the world.

The class room also allows students attend virtual lectures and interact with the faculty through this new addition at the campus.

The minister laid the foundation stone for a new block being constructed in the campus of NIT, Jalandhar.
