A startup company, TechVentures, launched by 2 NIT-K (National Institute of Technology, Karnataka) students has been placed in top 10 student- run ventures in India by Tata and National entrepreneurship Network (NEN). The venture started by Madhusmitha and Raghav utilizes the talented students of NIT-K and other resources to assist local industries. It helps SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) to resolve the challenges faced by them by utilizing the institute’s talent pool.
The final year student of Metallurgical and Material Science, Raghav realized that students do not take projects seriously. Most of the projects end with the annual technical festival ‘Engineer’ and many students recycled projects which was of no use. This led him to develop an industry in collaboration with the institute which can utilize the labs and other infrastructure of NIT-K effectively. Tech Ventures was launched in October 2011.
He along with Madhumitha, a third year electronics and communication student planned how to utilize the available resources such as financial assistance through technology improvement quality program (Teqit fund) of STEP (Science and Technology entrepreneurs Park).
Tech Ventures aims at using the technical skills and creativity of the students and faculty and other resources such as innovation centers and labs to resolve the issues faced by the industries. This is based on a low cost model which helps local industries to resolve the challenges faced by them thus making them an important stake holder in the growth of local economy.
TechVentures is also planning to use facilities available at the campus, during summers as they are not used by the institute to provide training courses in inventory management, welding, accountancy, operations, fitting, tally, financial management and others.
