hello if u have an idea which you think is invented by you or just a new innovation then you should apply for getting a patent or copyright for your idea.. there are lot of firms which will help you in explaining you the procedure of filing for patents. might be resource site like http://pitchindia.co.. can be of some help to you...
An idea has its value; but execution is key in success. If you are looking for outside funding; make sure till NDA is signed, do not entertain investors if you are very seretive on your idea.
actually nothing really works to protect your idea, only way it to implement your idea and make it popular before somebody copies it.
Well, if you have to divulge any details of your idea to a another party, and you need to protect it at the same time; I would suggest that both parties sign a NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement). This way whatever information is revealed is legally protected. Many foreign companies do this. For eg. if you want to tie up with a firm so that they outsource their work to you; before they send you any samples, they might ask you to sign an NDA and send it to them / fax it to them.

Even if u have proof of your idea being used elsewhere, how effective is the legal system? do u know of any such situations handled appropriately by indian legal system before the damage is done?
I am not sure if you will be able to legally protect your idea by sending it through reg post, but one things that I am sure of is that you will get tremendous clearity just by writing your idea on paper in pen (and not typing). Abhay
thanks. this all that is possible. One thing out of my expirence i have done dont know if its legally valid. You got to write the idea with your own handwriting and post it to yourself as a registered post and acknowledment due. seal it properly. once thepost comes dont open and keep it safely. it might be of some evidence
I did do some research on this...quiet sometime back. There seems to be 3 options. Trademark, copyright and patent. Patent being the highest protection offered. This site has some info on indian IPR laws http://www.indianemb.. but how these things work effectively in India is again a question. I guess talking to a patent lawyer is the best thing u can do. Hope this helps
