THEY HAVE GOT LATEST TECHNOLOGY,NOT ONLY TAT,THEY HAVE BRAND
TAT OFFER ADDED ADVANTAGE,SO WHY NEW PERSON WILL PERFER TO BUY UR HANDSET.
JUST TO INFORM U,I JUST WANT TO TELL U THAT "RELIANCE" TRIED TO START MANUFACTURING IN HANDSET IN "INDIA",BUT THEY WENT IN LOSS.SO INSPITE OF WASTING ENERGY IN MANUFACTURING THEY WENT TO INCREASE THEIR PROFIT MARGIN IN SERVICE.


AND HERE THEY ARE ONE OF THE LEADERS IN TELECOM.AND U ALL HAVE TO AGRY TO TAT.


NOW THE "****** COMMUNICATION" HAVE CAME WITH NEW IDEA,TAT U WILL GET 10 PAISE PER MINUTE FOR INCOMING CALL.AND THEIR BASIC MODEL START FROM 2500 OR NEAR BY TAT.(INCLUDIND SIM CARD AND ACTIVATION CHARGES).

NOW WHERE U THINK ,U WILL STAND ,EVEN IF PRODUCE LOWEST COST MOBILE,BUT WHAT ABOUT THE SERVICE....

THINK ABOVE TAT.

well i think Nokia started with cheap handsets and others followed it. Nokia has been cannabalising its models but is has made good profits by producing them in india n continue to produce sets like 1100 which become cheaper n cheaper. motorola and then there are many other new players like spice etc have entered with wide product range catering to all types of buyers.
so ultimately this wont be the right time to bring in a product with less features n compete on the basis of cost in the market. may be if u can provide people with lower call charges facility or concept like calling cards etc...that would do brisk biz...

If I understood tha bove posts correctly, are we talking of a mobile phone with basic features like just receiving and placing calls and may be call history. Why are U guys thinking of making a new one when some such are already in the market. They even don't cost high. Easily affordable by a Rickshawala(if U have one in Ur town/city) even. They come for not more than 1500/- Ofcourse, Reliance is always there for 500/-Are U planning for a piece at 100/- or so!!

Again, did I understand the baove posts properly. If not, can anyone take the pain of explaining it to me!!

The idea is to develop a low cost mobile with features that a common man would find it useful and not just use them but relate to it. Specially trageting villages & small towns which are yet to be connected in a big way.

And to sell this to Mobile Carriers rather than selling direct which would be too risky as you had mentioned and given the fact that the established makers have already lowered the entry cost.

Will be like a company that develops and sells the product to business and not direct consumers to start with. A good example would be the HTC one of the largest Windows Based SmartPhone manufacturers.

I guess the mobile prices have already plumetted down quite a bit. They may fall further, but am not sure if you want to enter that market at this stage.

People can get a mobile for less than a thousand bucks (ofcourse in most cases it may be subsidized by the mobile network service provider.)

So why would someone want to buy your mobile phone? In my opinion, price in itself can not be a differentiating factor in the mobile handset market at this point of time because of intense competition and already fallen prices.
