The mock test papers are based on previous years' question papers or dummy papers. GATE officials suggest using Internet Explorer on Windows XP/7. It has also been mentioned that the responses are not recorded and no score will be generated. One can terminate the mock test at any time. The submit button will be in “disable mode”.

GATE 2014 examinations will be held during forenoon and afternoon sessions on alternate weekends (Saturday and Sunday) between 2nd February 2014 and 2nd March 2014. Examination for some of the papers in GATE 2014 will be held in multiple sessions.

The paper pattern of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2014 (GATE 2014) is expected to have slight changes compared to the pattern of previous years. Candidates need to answer 65 questions in a 100-mark question paper within 3 hours. Out of this, there will be 10 questions (15 marks) on General Aptitude (GA) and the rest on the specific subject of the paper. GATE 2014 will consist of 2 types of questions, namely numerical answer type questions and multiple choice questions (MCQs).

Also a new paper "Ecology and Evolution" is introduced in GATE 2014. Examinations for all the 22 papers will be conducted by an Online Computer Based Test (CBT). The online examination paper will contain some questions for which numerical answers must be keyed in by the candidate using the virtual keypad. Rest of the questions shall be of Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) type.
