Goa has accepted NEET (National Eligibility Entrance Test) 2013 for admission to medicine and dental colleges. However the state will continue to hold GCET (Gujarat Common Entrance Test) for admission to pharmacy and engineering seats in Goa. GCET will be conducted in March next year.

The state has decided to exempt engineering aspirants from the newly introduced Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) for admission to engineering colleges to be conducted by the center from 2013. Goa will join the common national entrance test from 2014 onwards.

The Human Resource Development Ministry has decided to introduce the centralized national level entrance test for medical, engineering and science bachelor degree courses in India. This will prevent students from taking multiple entrance tests conducted on various dates in different institutes and institutes.

Till now state students seeking admission to IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology) were required to take GCET as well as the IITJEE to check if one is eligible for anyone or both. The state will follow the same system for 2013 admissions, but from 2014 onwards, Goan students will have to take the common entrance test to know if they are eligible for IITs and state seats at the same time.

Deferring the new pattern by one year will help students to prepare for the test in that duration.
