More than 15,000 candidates are expected to receive calls from the premier Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) for the Personal Interview (PI) round after the Results of the Common Admission Test 2013 (CAT 2013) are declared on Tuesday, January 14, 2014. CAT 2013 was conducted over a 20 day period from Wednesday, October 16 to Monday, November 11, 2013 in 40 cities in India, which is an increase from 36 cities in 2012. IIM Indore was the convener of CAT 2013.
A total of 1, 94,516 candidates wrote CAT 2013, up from 1, 91,642 candidates who wrote the test last year. 115 more seats have been added in 2013 across the 13 IIMs. The total number of seats in all IIMs is 3, 335 at present.
CAT is an all-India test conducted by the IIMs as an entrance examination for the management programs offered by its business schools (B-schools) as well as other top Master of Business Administration (MBA) schools.
As per officials of IIM Tiruchirappalli, the six newly established IIMs are expected to invite applications from 10,000 candidates to take part in the combined Personal Interview (PI) and Written Ability Test (WAT) process termed “Common Admission Process” (CAP). Altogether, there are 800 seats available in the new IIMs. IIM Tiruchirappalli is expected to conduct CAP 2014 for the six newer IIMs of Kashipur, Tiruchirappalli, Udaipur, Rohtak, Raipur and Ranchi.
The older IIMs at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Lucknow, Kozhikode, Indore and Shillong are each expected to call around 2,000 to 4,000 candidates for PI. Several candidates can also receive multiple calls. All these will add up to over 15,000 candidates receiving calls for interview at the IIMs. Hence the top 10% of the test-takers or around 17,000 candidates are expected to make the cut to receive calls from the IIMs.
The PI-WAT process at the IIMs is expected to begin during the middle of February and continue till the middle of March, 2014. Since all the candidates will wait till the end of March, 2014 for the Results to be declared, the admission process of other top B-schools offering Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) programs might be adversely affected.
The individual websites of the IIMs contain detailed information about the admissions process, selection criteria, etc.
