The premier Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM Bangalore) has declared the first shortlist of candidates to be called for the interviews and written tests, to grant admissions to the institute’s flagship full time two-year Post Graduate Program in Management (PGPM). The PGPM is considered equivalent to a Master of Business Administration (MBA) program. The number of seats on offer at the institute is 400 for PGPM for the academic session of 2014-16.
The list was drawn based on earlier academic records of the candidates and as per their scores in the Common Admission Test 2013 (CAT 2013), the Results of which were announced on Tuesday, January 14, 2014. Professional experience of around two to three years is an added advantage, although work experience is not a mandatory criterion.
CAT 2013, which is one of the most prestigious examinations in India for admission into the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) as well as other premier management institutes, was conducted from Wednesday, October 16 to Monday, November 11, 2013.
Candidates who are shortlisted need to appear for a Written Analysis and Personal Interview (WA-PI). Moreover, probable candidates need to provide three reference letters from persons known to the candidate and who have had interactions with them at an academic/professional level.
IIM Bangalore will give a specific topic to the candidates for the WA and the candidates need to complete a short write-up of around a page on the topic in 30 minutes. The topic is expected to be based on recent economic, political or business events. Topics on sports may also feature. The PI will be an assessment of the candidates’ management aptitude as well as other personal attributes. The final list for admission will be drawn on the basis of the CAT 2013 scores, previous academic records, professional experience (if any), performance in WA-PI and the reference letters provided by the candidates.
The first year of the PGPM program at IIM Bangalore comprises the mandatory subjects. In the second year, students have the opportunity to opt for electives of their choice from various subjects such as Finance and Control Area, Economics and Social Sciences, Marketing, Corporate Strategy and Policy, Production and Operations Management, Quantitative Methods and Information Systems as well as Organization Behavior and Human Resources Management.
