Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute, Mumbai was given its present title on January 26, 1997. Founded in 1887, it was then known as Victoria Jubilee Technical Institute. The institute is reputed for excellent training in courses in engineering and technology at diploma, degree and post graduate levels over three thousand students. The institute was granted financial and academic autonomy from June 21, 2004.

VJTI Covers a sixteen acre campus at a prime location at Matunga. It is easily accessible by both rail and road. The area is a hub of prestigious educational institutions including St. Joseph High School, MUICT, Don Bosco High School and Khalsa College. The Center for Industrial Research in Cotton Technology is located nearby.
