The National Institute of Engineering (NIE) was started in the year 1946 with admission only to a diploma course in Civil Engineering. The first batch of 86 students answered their attendance call sitting in a rustic room with thatched roof in Laxmipuram. The untiring efforts of Senior Engineer trio - Sri.S.Ramaswamy, Sri.D.V.Narasimha Rao and Sri.T.Rama Rao, the NIE founders, gave fruition when the NIE was securely established by 1950 with its own class rooms and workshops on a sprawling 6-acre campus in Mysore.

Infrastructure:-

The Institute has a well equipped library, a computer centre, lecture hall complex, various laboratories in different departments, hostels, Guest houses, health care centre, and adequate facilities for sports, games and co-curricular activities.

Center for Appropriate Rural Technologies ,Center for Material Research, Center for Energy ,Management & Test Systems for Electrical Apparatus ,Center for Artificial Intelligence Application to Power Systems , Building Fire Research Center ,Center for Research and Consultancy .

Facilities:-

Several national and MNC are visiting campus regularly.
