National Institute of Technology (NIT) Patna is the eighteenth NIT to come into existence. The origin of NIT Patna can be traced to 1886 when the Survey Training School was established. In 1900, graduate level curriculum was introduced in the institute. The institute was renamed as Bihar College of Engineering Patna in 1924.

In 2004, the college was upgraded to the status of National Institute of Technology. NIT Patna is soon to be given the status of Deemed University. For the time being, NIT Patna is attached to the Patna University for the purpose of examinations and award of degree.

NIT Patna presently offers degree courses in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics & Tele Communications Engineering, Architecture and Bachelor of Computer Applications. The total intake of students in undergraduate courses is 210. NIT Patna also offers M.Sc. Engg. courses in various branches of engineering. Besides the above programs, NIT Patna also offers MBA and MCA programs. .

Facilities

With well equipped and fully functional extension branch of Allahabad Bank within the campus, NIT provides all sorts of modern banking facilities to the students. There are hi-tech computer labs with internet connectivity up to 2 Mbps, where you can sharpen your technical skills and get hand-on experience. Besides, there's the central library, health care centers and also hostel facilities for the NIT students.
