National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur is the nineteenth NIT to be established in India. The institute came into existence in 1956. At that time it was known as Government College of Engineering and Technology, Raipur. The Institute has been upgraded to the category of National Institute Technology and has been accorded the status of Deemed University.
Facilities The campus area of NIT, Raipur is nearly 130 acres. Within the campus stands the main college building. University provides hostel facility to the students. There are 6 hostel blocks within the campus, residential quarters for teaching and non-teaching staff, a bank, a separate Public Works Department and electricity office for campus maintenance, a well equipped low cost dispensary and a well maintained guest house. The campus has got an additional facility of a local railway station named as Sarswati Nagar meant especially for the benefit of the students of nearby areas. Placement This cell started some significant work in the year 2006-07 through the untiring efforts of self motivated students of GEC Raipur to provide better placements and career options to the passing out batch.It was a tough job to search for HR and alumni in top positions and create brand equity of NIT Raipur students.An official "Placement Cell", was formed which looks after the process of placements here.The placement cell is completely handled by students themselves and results have been encouraging.
