Walchand College of Engineering, Sangli, was established in 1947 by Hon.Late Dhondumama Sathe beginning with an undergraduate course in Civil Engineering with an intake capacity of 60. Subsequently undergraduate courses in electrical and mechanical engineering, B.E.(Elec) and B.E.(Mech), with intake capacity of 60 each were introduced during the years 1950 and 1951 respectively. There are currently 390 students studying there at an undergraduate level, and 106 students at a postgraduate level.
Previously it was affiliated with Shivaji University, Kolhapur, but it is now an autonomous college. The college is named after Walchand Hirachand, an industrialist. Placement:- Reputed organizations, in various engineering fields are regularly visiting the college for the selection of trainee engineers. With the current trends in the job market, the share of software companies are increasing in the selections. Also it has brought in tough competition. The interviews start in August i e in the beginning of First semester of the final year & continue throughout the year. Eligible student get a chance to appear in more than 10 to 15 companies.
