An Admission Interview with Dr. Sanchita C Banerji of Athena School of Management

Q1. Please tell us in brief about the institute – its history, affiliations, philosophy etc?

The Athena School of Management is one of the few Business schools in India with an education model that constantly evolves to meet the current opportunities and challenges in today’s Corporate world. Modern corporate India is on the lookout for people who demonstrate leadership in tackling inherent roadblocks. We prepare our students for this dynamic and ultra-competitive environment.

According to Ancient Greek Mythology, Athena was the Greek Goddess of Wisdom, Courage & Inspiration. Our Motto is “Consilio Et Animis” which is Latin for “By Wisdom & Courage”. Hence the name Athena was selected by us as the manifestation of our mission.

At Athena our endeavor is not to simply develop students into highly employable assets, but to mentor them into well rounded individuals who can innovate, Inspire, and tackle real world challenges with wisdom and courage.

Q2. What are the various courses being offered to the students?

The Athena School of Management will commence its next class for the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM) on 7th January 2013 at its fully equipped and technologically advanced campus based in Mumbai.

The intensive two year programme focuses on intense education, interlocution, introspection and discovery, at the end of which the student will emerge as a leader taking decisions, actions and initiatives and the Results ‘by wisdom and courage’

Q3. Please tell us something about your faculty profile and the student faculty ratio.

The full time faculties at Athena are Doctorates in their respective fields. The  faculty will act as mentors, interlocutors and facilitators for the students to help them develop into responsible future managers who can make decisions and take accountability and consequences associated for the same.

A high percentage of our visiting faculties are from the Corporate Sector. They hold advanced degrees in their field of expertise. We believe that this level of exposure and training by current members of Corporate India would definitely enable our students to themselves enter corporate India in the future. 

Q4. What exam scores do you accept? If it’s not confidential please share the last year’s cut off for all the exams.

Athena conducts its own in-house Written Entrance Exam followed by Group Discussion and Personal Interview. We also accept CAT, MAT, C- MAT Results.

Q5. Is there any preference for a student with some pre MBA work experience? Also please share the ratio of engineers Vs the non engineers in the batch.

The students with prior work experience become little more equipped with the corporate world exposure. Apart from that there is not much difference between Fresher’s and students with work Experience. The knowledge imparted at Athena makes them equally educated, competent and employable after two years of PGPM.

Q6. Please share something about the placement record of the college. What are the primary sectors that the students were placed in?

We have already tied up with Corporate for their summer internships and Final Placements. Apart from that the rigorous Classroom training augmented with the real world internships at some of the India’s leading Companies makes them Competent and Employable off the Shelf Management Graduates who will be absorbed by all the sectors in the Corporate as per their areas of specializations.

Our placement services will not only facilitate employment but also will lead to over-all grooming of the students for their long term success. For this we constantly take feedback and insight from our corporate advisors.

Q7. Any other certifications/skill sets that a student gets while he is pursuing his course at your college?

Q8. How does a student benefit from the international affiliations that your college has.

In an increasingly globalised market place, exposure to international business practices and cultures is crucial. In fact, our course structure involves study tour to our Partner Institutions in Foreign Countries. Our students will attend the Graduate Leadership Program at the prestigious Australian Institute of Management (AIM) at Perth, Australia.

Q9. If I were to ask you to mention three differentiators for your institute what would they be?

  • To shape them into “employable” assets for their future employers rather than raw liabilities.
  • To groom them and make them comfortable anywhere-whether it is a Board room or a Ballroom

Q10. What kind of Scholarships is available from the institute’s side? Are there any tie ups with banks for financial assistance?

We have tie-ups with multiple PSUs and Private Banks for financial assistance.

Q11. Does the curriculum have any study tours or student exchange programs integrated? If yes please explain in detail.

We organize study tours to foreign countries for our students to gain a global outlook. This includes visits to industries, companies, cultural landmarks and partner institutions. The Graduate Leadership Program at the prestigious Australian Institute of Management (AIM) at Perth, Australia.

Q12. How long is the summer internship for the first year MBA students? What kind of support does the institute offer for the same to the students?

The summer internship will be for the duration of two months (8 Weeks). We facilitate Summer Internships with leading Corporate Houses for first hand experience under the guidance of Industry Leaders.
