The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) - Rohtak inducted its third batch of 127 students this week. The students are from various backgrounds, such as, commerce, dentistry, hotel management, fashion technology and business administration. This batch also has students who are scuba divers, NCC cadets, violin enthusiasts and those who have worked with UNICEF, Cement and Steel companies and Care foundations. The institute also claims to have admitted two students who are founders of Telecom and IT companies.
This batch has 12 female students, giving a boost to the gender ratio than what it was in the previous years. The average work experience of this batch is more than two years.
The 2010 batch of the institute, which was the first, were placed in top companies at average packages of Rs. 12.22 lakhs per annum. Being the only IIM in the NCR region has contributed towards the major growth of the institute. The induction program which started on June 29, 2012 witnessed many high profile dignitaries, such as, Mr. D Shiv Kumar , Senior Vice President - Nokia, Prof. Shekhar Chaudhuri , Director - IIM Calcutta , Prof. A.K. Jain from IIM Ahmedabad, Mr Ranabir Chakravarthy , Head HR, Tata Power ,and Ms. Aruna Krishnan , Corporate Human Resources Development , Wipro Ltd.
On the first day of the induction program, the Director, Professor P Rameshan addressed the students followed by inauguration by Mr. Sanjiv Sachar, a member of the Board of Governors of IIM Rohtak. The Director encouraged the students to contribute towards making the institute a global leader.
Director of IIM Calcutta, Professor Shekhar Chaudhari spoke about the value system of the IIMs on the second day. He emphasized on the importance of the IIM brand value and encouraged students to work towards the enhancement of this value. He focused on values such as humility, integrity and hard work which the students should imbibe in them. The following session on teaching pedagogy at IIMs was conducted by Professor AK Jain of IIM Ahmedabad.
On the third day, Ms. Aruna Krishnan, corporate Human Resources Development, Wipro Ltd informed the students about the qualities that HR personnel seek when they come down for placement. She revealed that communication skills are very important in the work place.
One of the newly inducted students revealed that the induction process helped them understand the functioning of the institute and is happy to be a part of this prestigious institute.
