The Orissa government has sanctioned Rs 10 crore for setting up a branch of XIM (Xavier Institute of Management) at Sambalpur for offering quality professional courses.

The upcoming institute would be a general management unit with specialization in HRD (human resource development) program and other specializations with a total seating capacity of 120.

To develop the proposed institute in Sambalpur, state will grant Rs 10 crore to XIMB (Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar), parent institute and a leading B-school in India. The E&TE&T department will sign a MoU (memorandum of Understanding) with XIMB to facilitate the setting up of new branch at Sambalpur.

As Orissa government will contribute funds for the development of the new campus, 33% seats will be reserved for the state students including 20% seats for reserved category students.

Sources from XIMB revealed that starting new programs will be very difficult as the AICTE (All-India Council for Technical Education) will restrict new management, engineering colleges from 2014. Unless and until the state government awards university status to XIMB, it will not be able to enter into an agreement with the state government for the new branch at Sambalpur.

In the mean time, construction of Sambalpur branch has begun.
