Most of the best brains prefer to join IIM-Calcutta’s flagship postgraduate program after their long stint abroad. For instance, Maharshi Patel, author of 'A Tale of Two Indians', whose 5000 copies were sold after spending most of life in US and the UK, has now decided to pursue his MBA from IIM-Calcutta. The institute is overwhelmed the institute as this is possibly for the first time when a talented author has chose the campus for MBA program.

The novel tells a story of an Indian origin NRI who is suicidal and alcoholic but comes back to India to see his grandfather. His visit to India proves a turning point for his life. Patel did his schooling in the UK and graduation from US. After a long stint in abroad he realized that his life lacks the depth of culture and knowledge imparted in India. This provoked him to take up an MBA program.

Anusha Bhushan, a graduate from London School of Economics (LSE) quotes another example of a foreign return Indian who chose IIM-Calcutta to pursue her MBA. Anusha, born in Bangalore did her schooling till Class X in London and then returned to Bangalore to complete her intermediate. After completing her Class XII she went back to LSE for her grads. After working in Deutsche Bank in London she decided to do her MBA from IIM-Calcutta and plans to finally get settled in India.

IIM-Calcutta is glad to have atleast 20 students who have studied and worked in foreign country and have taken up its PGP program after performing well in GMAT. All these Indian origin students are driven by their love for the home country which brings them back to India to contribute to the national development.
