XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test) registration for 2013 began on August 20, 2012. XAT 2013 will be held on January 6, 2013. The test will be conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur on behalf of the XAMI (Xavier Association of Management Institute). The test score is accepted by over 100 institutes for providing admission to various management programs.

Eligibility criteria:

Applicants must have a valid bachelor’s degree in any discipline or complete by June 10, 2013.

XAT exam pattern:

XAT is a paper pencil based test of 2 hours 20 minutes. Generally the paper has 100 questions but in 2012 there were only 85 questions. The paper is divided into 4 sections – English Language Ability & Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation, Decision Making and Essay Writing.

Registration process:

XAT registration process started from August 20, 2012 and last date to apply is November 30, 2012. Online registration can be done using debit/credit card for an amount Rs 950/- (Rs 650/- for SC/ST candidates). Students can register by making cash payment also. Programs offered by XLRI Jamshedpur

2-year PG programs:

Human Resource Management (HRM) Program

The 2-year Postgraduate program in Human Resource Management (HRM) prepares a student for a career in industry and services. The program focuses on human resource management systems, employee relations, interpersonal and leadership skills and legal framework. HRM is a holistic course including fields such as marketing, finance, IT and operations management. The program exposes students to different functional areas of management to enhance the effectiveness.

Business Management (BM) Program

The Business Management program aims at equipping students with an integrated approach to management function and managerial skills. The course provides an opportunity to focus in one or two of the functional areas (Finance, Economics, Marketing, Information Systems, Production and Operations Management and Strategic Management).

Both BM/HRM program consists of 35 credit courses (21 core and 14 elective courses) and a summer project.

Eligibility for both HRM/BM:

  • Applicants must have completed Bachelor’s degree of atleast 3 years or equivalent in any discipline from a recognized university from India/foreign.
  • Candidates completing their final exam by June 10, 2013 can also apply.

General Management Program

The General Management Programme (GMP) is the flagship fulltime, 15-months residential Executive PGDM programme offered by XLRI for aspirants with more than 5 years of work experience in managerial capacity. It is the oldest and most celebrated 15 months Executive PGDM in General Management program in India. GMP sees a blend of seasoned professionals, from entrepreneurs to doctors and scientists, chartered accountants, bankers, and healthcare professionals representing wide array of sectors such as Manufacturing, Energy and Infrastructure to name a few. Overall, the GMP course imparts a broad outlook, enriching the participants and encouraging them to think beyond their limits and identify out-of-the-box solutions and challenge the status-quo. The focus here is not on producing business managers per se, but socially responsible business leaders. The course includes 3 months practical experience in an appropriate field.

XAT Eligibility criteria:

Candidates applying for 15 Months General Management Programme (Executive PGDM) must:

  • Hold a minimum of three years Bachelor's Degree from a recognized University in India/abroad in any discipline.
  • Be employed in a full-time job, with at least five years, measured in terms of calendar months, of relevant managerial experience as on March 31, 2013 in any public/ private/ government/ non-government organization after graduation.

Fellow Program in Management

Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) is a Doctoral level (Ph.D.) programme. The FPM is a full-time, residential, doctoral programme that trains prospective scholars to become highly skilled and innovative researchers and teachers in various aspects of management. It primarily aims at preparing students for careers as faculty members at premier academic institutions.  The program offers fellowship of Rs 20,000 per month in the first 2 years and Rs 25000 per month in the following 2 years.

Eligibility criteria:

Applicants must have Master’s degree or equivalent in any discipline with a minimum of 55% marks (50% for SC/ST candidates) with the bachelor’s degree (10+2+3 years)/equivalent qualification with atleast 60% marks (55% for SC/ST) secured Or a professional degree such as CA/ICWA/CS with atleast 55% marks (50%) for SC/ST candidates) Or BE/BTech degree or equivalent with a minimum of 60% marks (50% for SC/ST candidates) and 2 years of relevant experience.

Executive Fellow Programme in Management (Exec-FPM)

The Executive Fellow Program is a part-time, non-residential, doctoral program that has been designed to cater to the scholarly needs of working executives/ managers/ faculty members/ researchers.

The objectives of the Program are to:

a.       Train prospective scholars to become highly skilled and innovative researchers and teachers in various aspects of management;

b.      Promote research relevant to management and organization;

c.       Develop theory and practice of management as relevant to the Indian context; and accordingly develop management education in India.
