West Bengal accepts NEET 2013 for admission to medical courses

West Bengal has decided to join NEET (National Eligibility-Entrance Test) for admission undergraduate medical courses to be introduced in 2013. The CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) will conduct the exam.

With this the state will scrap its medical CET conducted by JEE board. The central board has agreed to provide the question paper in Bengali medium as well and the date of the exam will be declared on the website. The exam will be held as per the regulations of MCI (Medical Council of India). The state directorate of medical education will conduct the counseling.  

The admissions to MBBS and BDS courses will be done on the basis of marks scored in NEET-UG. Students can seek admission to 15% medical seats at national level while to 85% seats in the respective states through NEET. However, the West Bengal chief minister, Mamta Banerjee has opposed the implementation of common entrance test for medical courses.
