Pathology is a division of medical science that deals with the analysis of diseases through inspection of organs, bodily fluids, tissues and whole bodies (autopsies). Pathology studies related to diseases is known as general pathology. Pathology is a link between the basic science and medicine. Medical pathology has been separated into two main parts such as clinical pathology and anatomic pathology or anatomical pathology.

Anatomic pathology studies about cellular and tissue level, whereas clinical pathology studies about disciplines of microbiology, immunology, clinical chemistry and Haematology. A graduate who works as a practitioner in pathology is known as pathologist. There are also others divisions in pathology. Pathologists who deals with the human diseases are called as physicians, these physicians have received expert training in pathology.

Surgeons can consult pathologists for doubts or other problems while performing operations. Pathologists also perform post-mortem inspections to find out the cause of death when the cause for death is not clear. Remuneration: -

The income of graduates may differ according to the organization. As a trainee one can get around Rs.8000 to Rs.12000 every month.  After gaining experience it may increase to Rs.15000 –Rs. 22000 every month.  After gaining 10 years of experience in this field one can begin his/her own pathology laboratory, which leads to gain confidence and good revenue. In government hospital the income is given according to the pay scale and grade. A pathologist can begin with a recognized hospital in set of Rs. 3, 00,000-3, 50,000 per annum in the private sector.
