DTE Postpones MHCET from February to March, 2012

The Directorate of Technical education (DTE) has decided to postpone its MBA entrance exam from February 26 to March 11, 2012. The decision was taken as MBA-CET exam dates were clashing with the testing window of Common Management Aptitude Test (CMAT).

CMAT will be conducted by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) from February 20 to 28, 2012 in 61 cities. The registration dates for CMAT will get over on January 9, 2012. The idea for conducting a single national level entrance test for non IIM B-schools was proposed by AICTE to ease the students from taking multiple entrance exams for admission to B-schools.

However, many states such as Maharashtra have refused to accept all- India CMAT and have decided to continue with their own state level entrance exams.

MHCET is a paper pencil based test and the test scores can be used as entry pass to top B-schools such as K J Somaiya Institute of Management Studies & Research, JBIMS, Welingkar Education, Research and Entrepreneurship Education, Sydenham Institute of Management Studies and other institutes in Maharashtra.

The number of students taking MHCET has dropped from 1.05 lakh students in 2010 to 92,167 students in 2011. DTE officials revealed that the recession and poor placements were the probable reasons for the decline in number of candidates opting for business management courses.

The MHCET exam is of 200 marks and question paper is divided into 6 sections namely, verbal ability, reading comprehension, data interpretation & data sufficiency, logical reasoning & visual reasoning and quantitative aptitude.
