With the motive to offer students studying in the U.S. high-quality degree at low-costs, the government of Texas has announced a $10,000 degree scheme as a response to the soaring college tuition fee and student debt. As per the officials, providing high-quality degree at lower costs is a top priority for the government now. With this scheme, the most coveted American degrees can now be secured at lower costs.
In response to the government’s plea, ten colleges in Texas have agreed to the scheme and will be offering a $10,000 degree starting next fall. The schools that will be adopting the $10,000 scheme include: Angelo State University, Rio Grande College, Southwest Texas Junior College, Sul Ross State University, various University of Texas and Texas A&M universities.
However, the scheme has not received the good will of all. A few experts revealed that the $10,000 goal is not easy to achieve and in many cases will require the involvement of Scholarships for select students and hence, there is no real reduction in the cost of providing the education. The quality of the education provided may also suffer under the scheme, added the experts.
Reduction in fee is definitely a reason to rejoice for international students. The proposed scheme will now make the US education available to students from weaker economic backgrounds. This tentative step to reduce the soaring tuition fee is expected to improve the Indian student enrollment in undergraduate and graduate courses.
