It was decided at the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) general council meeting to grant approval to all the existing 167 engineering colleges in Karnataka.

The colleges would offer about 36,000 seats in the counselling. However, the six new colleges that had obtained the state’s permission did not get the AICTE nod.
Officials from the state who had attended the meeting confirmed that all the existing institutions in the state were granted approval by the council.
The council officials added that the number of seats would be similar to that of last year, which would not affect engineering seat aspirants. However, there is no record of exact number of new colleges in Karnataka that have applied for approvals, but about 16 to 20 applications from the south-western region were recieved and most of them failed to meet the criteria.
The council staff are working all through the night to complete the work. We have kept up our promise to publish the seat matrix and list of colleges by 30 June 2010.
