Calicut University Senate on July 28, 2012 modified the university rule to introduce the projected increase in seats for undergraduate and master degree courses.

The meeting of university syndicate was held on July 26, 2012 where it was decided to increase the seats in science and arts colleges affiliated to the university.

With the changes in the rules, the colleges can now enroll 50 students for arts, 30 for science and 40 for language undergraduate courses. The seats for BMMC (bachelor of multimedia communication) and BBA (bachelor of business administration) courses have been increased to 40 and 50 respectively. There will be an increase of 60% in PG courses seats.

Degrees were awarded to 18,640 students at the meeting. Degrees include postgraduate, undergraduate and 14 PhD degrees.

The university rulings were also amended to grant 30% reservation for current casual labourers while appointing last grade posts. Twenty percent reservation will be given to full time sweepers under last grade appointments. This will reduce the open quota to only 50%. The syndicate standing committee was also asked at the meeting to examine the issue of ruling modifications to enable CBCS (choice-based credit semester) system for self-financed undergraduate courses.
