Distance education makes it possible for many students to enroll in courses that they would not be able to do, if these courses were only offered as classroom training. Location constraints, time constraints, and other factors often hinder the pursuing of education for an individual. The advent of online learning and distance education has changed that scenario totally. Today it is possible to complete a degree course from the comfort of your home, in your own time. Most of the major universities have open online courses that are even offered free of cost at times.
MBA is a much in demand course and a lot of students who want to do their MBA but are unable to do so in the full time classroom mode, now have a chance to do so, with the MBA twinning program offered by St. Joseph’s college in Trichy. The program is conducted in collaboration with the Puducherry University or PU. After its launch, the response to this program has been extremely encouraging. 130 students have enrolled for the distance education program.
Approved by the University Grants Commission, the aim of this MBA program is to expand the scope of the educational program and make higher studies accessible via distance learning.
Puducherry University has collaborated with five colleges in all, amongst which St Joseph’s college is one. The curriculum is set by the Puducherry University, and they offer the degree. The college provides the infrastructure for the course, that is, the classrooms, the faculty, and the conducting of examinations.
In 2017, PU has launched the program in two colleges – St. Joseph’s and St. Xavier’s College in Kolkata. The Director of Distance Education in PU, Mr. Sibnath Deb said that there has been a growing demand for distance education programs in the recent years. The number of students in regular programs has become equal to the number of programs in distance learning programs. He said that a lot of women in Tamil Nadu have also expressed interest in doing this program.
Alexander Pravin, the coordinator of PU-SJC MBA program said that the key differentiator for this program is that the collage can provide inputs for the curriculum allowing PU and the college to mutually derive the strength from each other. Click here for more detail's
According to C Joe Arun, director of the Joseph’s Institute of Management, the program mixes two different education cultures with separate educational pedagogy. He further said that working professionals would be the ones deriving maximum benefit from this course and PG student and homemakers have expressed interest in it.
Students enrolled into this program can apply for scholarship and the course offers concession in the fees for ex-servicemen, widows, and disabled people. Distance learning MBA will allow more students to pursue their dream.
