The MIT Accelerated Information Technology Initiative (AITI) was launched by MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Boston for the first time in India on July 2, 2012 at IIT Bombay. SJMSOM (Shailesh J Mehta School of Management) and IIT-Bombay hosted the launch of MIT’s mobile technology start-up incubator in India and the program was imparted to 40 degree and management students at IIT-Bombay.
AITI, commenced in 2000 incorporates a multidisciplinary group from MIT to impart development skills in countries where students can develop businesses to meet the requirements of the local communities. Since its inception, top universities across 11 countries have implemented the program with over 1800 participants. MIT AITI builds software, curriculum, platforms and networks that help students in developing regions explore in the fields of communication technology and information mostly concentrating on mobile applications. Companies such as TiE Mumbai, Google, Freemont Partners and Mumbai Angels work with AITI as sponsors.
The shortlisted IIT-B students will be exhibiting their work publically in a ‘Startup Showcase’ to be organized on August 9 at the institute campus from 6 to 9 pm. Students will interact with the Mumbai entrepreneurship community for feedback, mentorship and finally financing.
Jury will include members from Freemont Partners, Mumbai Angels, AOL CoolAge, TiE Mumbai and Google who will be giving feedback to the presenting students’ teams individually and select the finalists for the incubation opportunity and prospective capital amount from Freemont Partners.
